RECYCLING SATURDAY
The Committee reported that about the same amount of people came to the Fair Grounds with their recyclables last Saturday. However, it looked as though there were people who had not been there before. About the same amount of newspapers and magazines were collected. The cardboard collection was much greater. Many kudos to those who made the effort. The next collection day will be the 2nd of March from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. There will be collection days every two weeks until April when the City of Fort Benton will have their Dump Day. These collections will give the Committee a good idea as to how much recyclables Fort Benton can generate. Keep spreading the word so every family in town will know about the program.
This program is a Chouteau County Project. The Committee would like Big Sandy, Carter, Geraldine, Highwood, Loma, Square Butte, and all areas in-between, to join this conservation effort. Please call Karen Giles at 622-3834 for information.
HERBERT THE ENTERTAINER
I did not mention last week what Herbert said about getting older. “There are two things I do not like about getting older. The first is that you begin to forget things. The second is, umm, umm, I forgot.” Join the club Herbert.
CANCER SUPPORT GROUP LUNCHEON
On the 12th of February, the Cancer Support Group arranged a Valentine Luncheon just as a get-together to show love for family and friends. Someone worked very hard to set up the tables and decorate them with handmade heart placements with a loving quote on each one. It was such a pleasure to be with those cancer survivors and those who have been touched by cancer in their families.
This group of people is self sufficient with help from fundraisers and donations. Always keep in mind how they support cancer patients undergoing treatment, survivors, and family members whenever you have the opportunity to donate.
I have a message that they wanted me to pass along to you. The Chouteau County Cancer Support Group is collaborating with the Montana Breast & Cervical Health Program to promote mammograms during February and March 2013. If you reside in Chouteau County and have never had a baseline mammogram or are due for a screening, call the following number and schedule an appointment. You may qualify for a reduced pric4ed or a free screening. Please call Karyn Grindeland at 406-791-9272.
There are three ways to detect breast cancer and having a mammogram is so important. The second is an exam during a yearly physical and the third is self-examination, (which I am sure that you all do monthly.) If you have not gotten into the habit, start now, put it on your calendar for the same day of the month and good luck. Early detection is the best way to go. JUST DO IT.
MARILYN AND DEAN
Everyone I spoke to had a ball last Saturday evening when Monroe and Martin visited Fort Benton. One man said that he has not laughed that much for a long while. Many said that the songs brought back many memories of the 50’s. There were about 250 in the audience. A busload came from Great Falls with about 30 people. It was one of the best shows we have had in Fort Benton and I am sorry if you missed it. Marilyn and Dean were amazed at what Fort Benton has to offer and hoped to return soon. Most all of our entertainers say that they will return. Why not? Fort Benton is very entertaining as well.
There are two more Performing Arts programs this season. On Wednesday, March 13th at 7:00pm at the Elementary School the program will be Nicole Madison and Keith Phillips. Nicole has the most beautiful voice and is accompanied by Keith on the piano. They are both accomplished musicians. (A while back, Keith’s wife Pam Phillips, pianist, was one of our Performing Arts shows. Everyone enjoyed her performance very much. It will be nice to see her again. I hope that she travels with Keith.) On Wednesday April 10th, also at the Elementary Auditorium, will be The Alley Cats. These four men will be singing many songs with which you are familiar. So, put the dates on your calendar and we will see you there.
(Randy Morger assures me that The Alley Cats have nothing to do with the feral cats that have over-run Fort Benton. If you do not know the story of “The Feral Cats, the House Mice, and Me,” when you have an hour or so to spare, I will discuss it with you. It’s a joke Folks, just a joke. If you know Randy, he is never going to let me forget it.)
GOLDEN AGE NEWS
A few months ago, the Senior Center began serving an evening meal at 5:00pm on the second Tuesday of the month. Due to unusual circumstance, the Board is changing the dinner from the second Tuesday to the THIRD TUESDAY of the month. By the time you read this, you will have missed Tuesday the 19th. However, put on your calendar Tuesday the 19th of March. If you did not know about these dinners or have not been able to attend, please join this social evening with family and friends.
GOD BLESS AMERICA AND OUR TROOPS.
